Beware Of Cell-Phone Use by Dr Tony Vendryes

(Jamaica Gleaner) Tuesday | March 28, 2017 | 3:00 AM
Children have an increased risk of adverse health effects from cell phone radiation, as cell phone radiation penetrates much deeper into the heads of children than adults.
A cultural revolution called the Wireless Age has exploded worldwide. No other technology has grown on us like the mobile phone. Within three decades, this device has moved from zero to over 7.3 billion units worldwide. By 2014, there were more cell phones than people on planet Earth. Everyone seems to use one.
Question: are cell phones safe?
Cell phones – like cordless home phones, television, radio, laptops, and tablet computers – produce radiofrequency (RF) radiation. But cell phones are placed closest to the body for longer periods of time every day.
In 1993, Dr George Carlo, a public health scientist, wrote a book, Cell Phones – Invisible Hazards in the Wireless Age. His studies revealed worrying trends that others dismissed. But due to the relatively recent adoption of cell phones, the long-term safety of the technology cannot be determined conclusively and caution is warranted.
Less than 100 years ago, doctors regularly advised patients to take up cigarette smoking for weight control and stress management. The notion that inhaling tobacco smoke could be harmful was regarded as alarmist, unfounded, almost superstitious. Now lung and several other cancers and smoking-related heart disease are among the top causes of death and smoking is universally recognised as deadly. We now shake our heads at our earlier stupidity.
BRAIN DAMAGE
The brain is an extremely sensitive organ, with special protection. One such protection is a special filter that keeps harmful chemicals from entering the brain. It is called the blood brain barrier. Radio frequency radiation (RFR) emitted from mobile phones interferes with the blood brain barrier, and allows toxic substances access to the tissues of the brain.
The other brain protector is the skull. Children have an increased risk of adverse health effects from cell phone radiation, as cell phone radiation penetrates much deeper into the heads of children than adults. Studies show that children under the age of eight absorb twice the amount of radiation into their brain tissue as adults due to their lower skull thickness. These differences signify potentially serious health risks to children
HEADACHES
The more one uses a cell phone, the greater the occurrence of headaches, dizziness and general feelings of discomfort. Research suggests that increasing the use of these instruments from less than two minutes to over 60 minutes per day made those symptoms worse by over 600 per cent.
CANCER
Studies have produced conflicting results on the relationship between cancer and cell phone use. Laboratory studies on animals do show a connection. Researcher in the United States, Canada and Poland on people exposed to RFR indicates an increased risk of brain, lung and blood cancers.
But The Federal Communications Commission and the US Food and Drug Administration have insisted that there is no evidence that cell phones cause brain tumors or other health problems. The experts, however, agree that more research on cancer in cell phone users is urgently needed.
Common brain tumors on average take about 20-30 years to fully develop. Although cell phones were introduced in 1983, it was after 2000 that their use exploded, so the 20-year mark for mass cell phone use has not yet been reached. The full story has not yet been told!
The 2010 INTERPHONE research, the largest study ever to examine possible links between cell phones and brain tumors, concluded that overall there was “no increase in risk” for brain tumors, but the average user in the study had less than eight years of cell phone exposure.
The International Agency for Research on Cancer of the World Health Organization announced in 2011 that it had added cell phone radiation to its list of physical agents which are “possibly carcinogenic to humans”.
MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENTS
There is a statistically significant increase in the risk of death from motor vehicle accidents among users of mobile phones regardless of whether the phone was handheld or an earpiece was used.
DAMAGE TO SPERM
Cell phone storage in front pockets has been linked to lower fertility. The Cleveland Clinic Center for Reproductive Medicine reported that semen quality “tended to decline as daily cell phone use increased”. According to a 2012 study in the Journal of Andrology, “men using mobile phones have decreased sperm concentration” and “decreased viability” of their sperm.
THE UNBORN
Prenatal exposure to radiation from cell phones may increase the risk of ADHD and other behaviour problems in children. According research, exposure to cell phone radiation while in the womb “was associated with behaviour difficulties such as emotional and hyperactivity problems in those children by the time they entered school”.
RECOMMENDATIONS
– Safety first! Restrict cell phone use. Minimise radiation exposure when using cell phones as much as possible. Keep the device away from your body as much as possible by using an earpiece or headset.
– The amount of RF absorbed into the head can be reduced by using a wired ear-piece (not a Bluetooth) rather than placing the phone against the ear. Children under the age of eight should use cell phones as little as possible.
– When the signal strength is low, do not use your phone. The lower the signal strength, the greater the radiation emitted from the phone. Do not use handheld phones while driving a vehicle.
– Increase your body’s resistance to radiation. Eat lots of fresh vegetables and fruit and supplement with the antioxidant ACES- vitamins A, C, E, and the mineral Selenium. Supplement with herbs like ginkgo biloba, schizandra, rosemary, pycnogenol and garlic.
– Avoid cigarette smoke, alcohol and chemical pollutants. Do some type of detoxification programme from time to time.

Jamaica, Brazil face off over ‘bully beef’ ban

Trade row looms

(Jamaica Observer) Friday, March 24, 2017     57 Comments

BRASILIA, Brazil — A sanitary inspection agent collects meat products for testing in a supermarket in Brasilia on Wednesday. Jamaica and a number of countries have suspended imports of Brazilian meat in the wake of a scandal involving health inspectors in the South American country who are accused of accepting bribes to overlook the sale of expired meats. Investigators also charge that chemicals and other products were added to meat to improve its appearance and smell. (Photo: AP)

Jamaica

and Brazil appear to be heading towards a trade row over the island’s ban on corned beef imported from that South American country as both sides yesterday took hard positions on the measure.

The Brazilian Embassy in Kingston asked the Jamaican Government to lift what it described as the “unilateral ban”, pointing out that none of the 21 meat-processing companies under investigation in Brazil for selling rotten beef and poultry export to Jamaica.

However, Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries Minister Karl Samuda insisted that the ban on the product, more popularly known as “bully beef” in Jamaica, will remain in place until relevant tests have been completed

A news release from Samuda’s ministry said that no permission will be given for the sale or distribution of corned beef from Brazil until the Government gets adequate assurance that the products are safe for consumption.

According to the ministry, the Bureau of Standards Jamaica is conducting chemical test profiles to ascertain the contents of corned beef on the market. At the same time, the Veterinary Services Division of the ministry is conducting microbiological and residue tests to ascertain whether contaminants are present in the products on the local market.

Jamaica imposed the ban on Monday this week as a scandal over alleged bribery by meat packers to allow the sale of expired meat in Brazil deepened, with the European Union, China and Chile deciding to halt some meat imports from South America’s largest nation.

The industry ministry had said the companies implicated by the Brazilian authorities supply 99.5 per cent of the corned beef on the local market.

However, on Wednesday, GraceKennedy Limited issued a release saying that its corned beef suppliers in Brazil are not under investigation by the authorities.

The company said it could confidently state that the factories that supply corned beef to GraceKennedy Ltd are not a part of the current investigation by the Brazilian authorities.

“Further, none of the meat plants listed by the Brazilian authorities supply corned beef to GraceKennedy Ltd,” the company added.

That point was supported in the Brazilian Embassy’s release yesterday as it stated that the companies that export to Jamaica are not under investigation and operate within all licensing and health regulations.

The embassy said that of the 21 companies under investigation only six have exported products within the last 60 days and none of those exports were made to Jamaica.

“The Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture has a rigorous inspection service for animal products with permanent auditing, monitoring and risk assessment,” the embassy said.

“The Brazilian Government is auditing establishments mentioned in the Federal Police investigation into allegations of irregularities in the agricultural inspection system. Of the 21 units under investigation, three have already had their operations suspended and all 21 have been placed under a special inspection regime conducted by a specific task force of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Supply. The investigation in question involves a marginal percentage, only one per cent, of all meat exports,” the embassy added.

It said that Brazil has 4,837 establishments which produce meat products. “Of these establishments, which are subject to federal inspection, only 21 (0.2 per cent of the total) are alleged to have been involved in irregularities, and of the over 11,000 employees in the agricultural inspection system, only 33 (0.3 per cent) are being investigated by the Federal Police for possible irregularities. That means that 99.8 per cent of registered companies and 99.7 per cent of inspectors are not involved in the allegations under investigation,” the embassy pointed out.

The embassy said it is in contact with the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries for any clarification on the matter, and all exporting plants remain open to inspection visits by importing countries that wish to visit to clear up any doubts which they may have.

“Brazil is the most interested party in resolving and clarifying these issues, and in having the current unilateral ban lifted,” the embassy said.

Pointing to the fact that this year Brazil and Jamaica are celebrating 55 years of diplomatic relations, the embassy said “the relationship is based on mutual trust and respect and therefore, to ensure the continued safety of Jamaican consumers and fair trade for Brazilian producers, Brazil urges that the Jamaican Government review its policy towards Brazilian meat imports”.

However, Samuda, in his release, stated firmly: “The measures will not be lifted until we have received the all-clear. We have to ensure the safety of the public.”

He also said that Jamaican officials are to visit Brazil on a fact-finding mission.

Jealous man breaks window while spying on girlfriend

(Jamaica Observer) Wednesday, March 22, 2017     41 Comments

A man who confessed to damaging a window at his girlfriend’s house told the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court yesterday that he did it by accident while spying on her because he suspected she was cheating on him.

When the matter was called up, Parish Judge Andrea Pettigrew-Collins asked Nicholas Rashford, who pleaded guilty to malicious destruction of property, why he broke the window.

“I went to the house and saw a man there. The first time I saw a man on the bed, him work on the building. The second time mi see him and her,” Rashford replied.

“The fact that you are seeing somebody there, she don’t need to say anything,” Pettigrew-Collins told him.

“She lied the first time,” Rashford uttered.

The complainant, who was not present, was summoned to appear in court on April 26.

Rashford’s bail was extended.

The Eyebrows Says It All – Bride Of Chucky – Woman Pleads Guilty

Lest we forget, the female specie can be just as evil and deadly as their male counterparts.  It is high time we have live dramas being broadcast on our local television.  How about a JA version of Lifetime and not to be left out a Judge Pussey, live and direct on prime time.  Crime is the number one disease facing the Island, and we could do well to have both syndicated.  It woulda ‘sell off’, Jamaican parlay.

I am trying to figure out if she is a nutcase or what.   No reports have suggested there was a baby for sale operation going on.  We are aware of children being abducted in the sex slave trade. With this case, all we have is as outlined in this piece.  Bride of chucky is found to have in her residence two days after, the 1 year old child kidnapped on the 22 Aug 2013.  She and ar companion mus a cock up a feed di baby.  That was not enough as while on bail, she decides 3 months later in November of said year, to commit murder of a former post mistress then kidnapped her 6 weeks old grandson.  The Court did not see it fit to do a psych examination of this female.  Why????  With eyebrows like those, I certainly would before granting bail.  Do you not think the second crime, loss of life for this former post mistress could have been prevented???

I am guilty she says.  Took her four years to be able to declare that.  I wonder how long it is going to ake for her to plead on the murder charge in a court of law?  No insanity plea, so is it unfair to say evil in plain sight???

Should I Ever Have Soy? Dr Tony Vendryes

(Jamaica Gleaner) Tuesday | March 21 2017
For decades there has been a steady stream of ‘anti-soy’ publicity and I am often send Internet articles from readers and my patients warning about the dangers of soy. In my experience however, soy is a virtual super food.
I personally have consumed soy products daily for more than 25 years and regularly recommend this humble bean to my patients. As a vegetarian, I emphasise the importance of dietary protein and am always seeking ways to supplement my protein intake. Soy is a great protein source as it is a complete protein containing all the essential amino acids.
The ‘anti-soy‘ lobby has actually encouraging intensive scientific research into the benefits or dangers of eating soy foods, so the issue can be dealt with using facts instead of anecdotes.
Overwhelmingly, medical and nutritional research has shown that soy offers protection against the killer diseases – heart disease, cancer and osteoporosis while helping to ease the symptoms of the menopause.  It also is an economical and complete source of high quality protein that can safely replace animal protein in the diet.
The major accusations against soy are that it may cause cancer and may disturb thyroid function.
SOY AND CANCER
Much of the worry about soy has to do with naturally occurring compounds called phytoestrogens, the most abundant of which is the isoflavone, genistein. As their name suggests, phytoestrogens have chemical structures similar to that of the hormone oestrogen. This enables them to fit into the body’s oestrogen receptor sites, much as a key fits into a lock.
Instead of causing breast cancer, this ability to bind to oestrogen receptors allows phytoestrogens to block the effects of the much stronger oestrogen produced in the body or come from toxic chemicals like insecticides.
The weak soy phytoestrogens are actually oestrogen blockers and this is one way by which soy protects women against breast cancer.
Most research as well as the experience of Asian populations, where soy has been a dietary staple for thousands of years, confirms the protective role of soy. A report published back in 2001 in the journal Cancer, Epidemiology, Biomarkers, and Prevention provides compelling evidence of the anti-cancer effects of soy foods. This study found that an increase in soy intake by adolescent girls reduced their later risk of breast cancer. Women with the highest consumption of soy had only half the risk of those with the lowest intake. Other studies have also shown a reduced risk of prostate and colon cancers with increasing soy consumption.
SOY AND THE THYROID
Another charge against soy is that it contains “anti-thyroid agents” that can disturb the function of the thyroid gland. This is largely theoretical. Certain compounds in soy can affect thyroid tissue in test tube studies, but this does not appear to be the case in live human beings.
Population studies show no increased prevalence of thyroid disease in countries with a high intake of soy, and the clinical research has been inconclusive. That debate aside, most researchers agree that consuming soy at optimal healthy levels (about 25 to 40 grams per day) is most unlikely to impair thyroid function. After using soy with hundreds of patients, I have detected no disturbance of thyroid function that I could blame on soy.
However, if you have an under-active thyroid, a bit of caution may be in order. Keep your soy intake within the above range and have your thyroid function monitored periodically.
Also, be aware that taking thyroid medication at the same time as any food (soy or otherwise) may decrease the drug’s absorption. Take it on an empty stomach.
RECOMMENDATIONS
Have some soy in your daily diet. Soy is now available in many, many forms: soymilk, shakes, soy cheese, soy nuts, soups, drinks, protein bars, tofu and tempeh. There are also textured vegetable protein products like veggie mince and soy burgers. My favourite way to have high quality soy each day is with a soy protein shake. This is a delicious nutritious drink that can conveniently replace a meal.
With the tremendous increase in commercially processed soy products there are justifiable concerns about their quality. Not all soy products are equal. I use mainly non-GMO soy products from the most reputable sources. Avoid foods containing hydrogenated or partially hydrogenates soybean oil.
Select high quality soy products as many so-called soy products have low levels of the substances that provide the health benefits of soy.  Look for the term ‘soy protein isolate’ and check the protein content on labels as a guide in assessing soy products.

Too Black Fi Wi, Is He???? – Go Siddung Calabar Heads – What Is Jamaica’s History???

Funny it is that in the USA, there is much talk about oppression of immigrants, refugees, cruelty towards undocumented workers who have committed no felony.  Within Jamaican quarters, there is much outrage about what is going on in America on that very topic.  How does America and the world view immigrants, foreigners putting it bluntly in this season?  Is Jamaica any different?  With this Ugandan youngster, why is Calabar behaving in this manner?  Have they read the youngster’s journey?  Are we not guilty just a tad of the very same issues we are blasting the USA administration of?  I cannot tolerate hypocrisy, there is absolutely no need for it.  Case by case, merit by merit.  Often times, the best intentions goes awry due to circumstances beyond ones control.

We have Jamaican athletes who have been ‘grabbed’ by other countries and we wish them all the best as business is business.  How many athletes do we have competing in long distance events?  If our own are not so inclined, then we need to import.  Rules are rules and I fully understand, however, when circumstances not of your own doing causes those rules to be broken, compassion can be invoked.

As a people, we recount on our oppression on special occasions as history is important.  Only when we know where we came from, our struggles, can we truly move on and become better as a people.  It appears to me that those oppressed are inclined to become the oppressor.  Tragic that is.   Once again our education, intellect has not freed us from mental slavery an underlying root cause based on our actions.

I will say it over and over again.  Until the black race loves itself, self-bondage will always loom.  If after reading this piece the majority still say, ‘run wey di bwoy”, I rest my case.  When you are ugly on the inside, dressing to the nine does not make you beautiful, you are still freaking ugly. I DO NOT LIKE UGLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rough ride to Jamaica

Kingston College’s Ugandan student/athlete makes costly sacrifice to improve his life

(Jamaica Observer) Sunday, March 19, 2017         80 Comments

RODGERS … Kenyan soldiers took away his money in Mombasa (Bryan Cummings)

When the guardians of Ugandan boy Aryamanya Rodgers decided to explore the possibility of getting him to live and learn in Jamaica, little did they know that the journey would have been so rocky on so many fronts.

Rodgers, the now 16-year-old student of Kingston College (KC) who is an accomplished middle- and long-distance runner, has been placed under the microscope by people opposed to his participation in the annual Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championship at the National Stadium in Kingston later this month. Now, he is suffering emotionally from all that has transpired, the school’s principal has stated.

In the latest situation, Calabar High School has objected to Rodgers’ participation on the basis that the youngster did not meet stipulated registration deadlines as imposed by the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA), which administers high school sports islandwide.

It follows a trail of woe during Rodgers’ travels, as he was refused a United States visa in his homeland, stopped from entering other countries and had to be going to and from Uganda with the uncertainty of his final destination hovering over his head.

But one of the chilling challenges that he faced was being forced, at gunpoint, by Kenyan soldiers, to hand over his money, along a route that he had not originally planned to take on the trip to Jamaica.

A relative who was travelling with him suffered the same fate.

“When they had to go through Kenya, which is for the most part a military state, they had to go through a number of military posts,” a source close to Rodgers’ relatives related to the Jamaica Observer.

“At one point they would not allow them to go beyond a certain point and the soldiers took away all the money that the family member had, and took away most of Ary’s money.

“Luckily for Ary, his uncle in the United States had told him that when he is travelling he should not put all his money in one place. So he hid a certain amount of US dollars, which the soldiers could not find when they searched him, and that’s how he managed to get around a bit,” the source said.

But how did it all begin?

In June 2016, Rodgers’ guardian, Reuben Twijukye, contacted KC in writing, seeking to have the young athlete attend the institution that remains the most successful in athletic achievements among Jamaican schools.

He was officially accepted by KC on July 11, and registered on July 18, 2016, based upon documentation obtained by the

Sunday Observer.

Rodgers’ original travel date to Jamaica was August 24, 2016, but after leaving the Ugandan capital of Kampala to board a flight to Germany for further connections to Jamaica, the airline, Ethiopian Air, refused to board him on the basis that he did not have a visa to enter Germany. This came after the airline got clearance from the German Embassy which said that because the youth was transiting, he should be allowed to board the aircraft. The airline refused, resulting in the cost of the ticket being lost.

Even after several diplomatic interventions, the airline still refused to board him, insisting that he needed a visa to land in Germany, even though the German Embassy wrote to the airline to say that Rodgers should be allowed to board.

It was at that point that his guardian decided to explore the route of Kenya to Germany, and then on to Montego Bay on Condor Airlines.

But after travelling by bus from neighbouring Uganda to the airport at Kenya’s second largest city, Mombasa, to board the flight for the onward journey to Germany, Rodgers was turned down again — once more the story of his needing a visa landed in his lap.

It was while he was returning from the airport that the Kenyan soldiers took away his money and that of his relative.

Rodgers’ connections later learned of a flight from the Ugandan city of Entebbe, about which a popular film was made, that would get him to Curacao via The Netherlands and on to Jamaica.

The film,

Victory at Entebbe, shot in 1976 and which had frontline stars including Anthony Hopkins, Bert Lancaster, Liz Taylor and Kirk Douglas, was based on a raid by Israeli soldiers on the same airport to free Israeli hostages, and featured actor Julius Harris portrayed as former Ugandan President and strongman Idi Amin.

After all the fuss, Rodgers arrived in Jamaica on Sunday, October 16, and had his first day in class on Tuesday, October 18.

ISSA’s Rules and Regulations 14 (a) states that for an athlete to take part in any competition under its management “the competitor must be registered in the school by 30th September in the school year”.

The ISSA management committee decided last week that Rodgers would be allowed to compete at ‘Champs’ in class two, but this has not gone down well with members of the Calabar High fraternity, who insist that ISSA should indicate, in writing, how the decision was arrived at to allow the Ugandan to compete, as he was not actually in school as at September 30.

Calabar’s Principal Albert Corcho, who, ironically was shortlisted and interviewed for the job of principal of KC five years ago when Dave Myrie, the current KC principal, was chosen ahead of him and five others, objected publicly to the manner in which he said the members of the ISSA committee handled the matter.

Corcho, also a former principal of Munro College in St Elizabeth, Tarrant High School in Kingston, and senior teacher at Campion College who was appointed headmaster of Calabar in 2013, lashed his fellow executives in radio interviews and hinted that the school planned to continue to keep the pressure on ISSA.

Calabar has since returned the Mortimer Geddes Trophy, symbol of schoolboy athletics supremacy, to ISSA, 12 days ahead of the traditional day to do so, and boycotted the media launch of ‘Champs’ held last Thursday in Kingston.

KC’s principal Myrie said that the entire issue has had a negative effect on Rodgers.

“He is unhappy … he feels down, especially when he goes on Facebook and sees everything that is being said about him,” Myrie said.

“His uncle in the United States, who at one time expressed an interest in Ary developing his craft and running for Jamaica, is concerned.

“But on the bright side, he continues to do his school work and do very well. He is a bright student and only recently he got 98 per cent in his Mathematics examination. The teachers at KC have said that they wished they had more Arys in their class to teach. He is very disciplined, very quiet and it is unfortunate that there is all this fuss about a young man who genuinely qualifies to represent Kingston College,” Myrie said.

Straight up politicians on both sides of the divide.  Law and enforcement, in ability to enforce the weak ass rule of law.  In ability to get cracking on re writing the penalties for many of these toothless laws.  Ole time people used to sey, if u ears caan hear den ur ass will feel.   No use wasting money on signage re littering.  Many of our people are illiterate, and those that are not, are indisciplined and lawless.  Only one thing and one thing alone must be done and that is to inflict penalties and punishment that will serve as a deterrent moving forward.  We chat too much, posture and appear to be actors on a stage each and every time we take the podium.  Pretending to not see what really is taking place in the capital.  Our surroundings are a disgrace.  It should be no surprise when 1st world countries refer to us as a 3rd world banana republic in our politics.  Everything in this country is centered around politics so the blame is squarely to be placed on them.

Take some pride and stop crossing over the filth whilst dressed in your dan dan and declare war on those whose only purpose is to exist in a pig sty.

A view of Havanna, capital of Cuba.(Anna Ratt)

From a new list of 231 cities around the world, Kingston ranks at 153, between Ho Chi Ming City in Vietnam and Mumbai, the Indian megapolis at 154.

The ranking comes from Mercer’s 19th annual Quality of Living survey, which was released earlier this week.

The survey considers aspects such as city infrastructure, transportatiion, reliable electricity and water supply. It is used largely by internatioanl firms in helping them to decide where to invest and how to compensate expatriate company workers.

The top-ranked city in the world was Vienna, capital of Austria, followed by Zurich in Switzerland and Auckland in New Zealand.

Bottom-ranked was Baghdad, capital of war-torn Iraq in the Middle East.

Within the Caribbean region, Kingston performed more poorly than most listed cities, including top-ranked Pointe-à-Pitre, capital of the French island of Guadeloupe and San Juan, capital of the US territory of Puerto Rico.

The highest-ranked city from an independent state within the Caribbean region was Panama City, capital of Panama at 97th position. San Jose, capital of Costa Rica followed at 110.

The highest-ranked Caricom city was Nassau, capital of the Bahamas at 113. Santo Domingo, capital of the Dominican Republic, was ranked at 139.

Kingston was also topped by Port of Spain, capital of Trinidad and Tobago, which ranked 147th, tying with Chongqing in China and placing just above Qingdao, another Chinese city at 149.

Kingston did beat two other Caribbean cities though – Havana, capital of Cuba at 192 and Port au Prince, captial of Haiti at 228, just above Baghdad. But when it came to just infrastructure specifically, Port-au-Prince took bottom position at 231, with Baghdad just ahead of it.

Caracas, capital of Venezuela, also performed poorly, placed at 189.

The highest-rated US city was San Francisco at 29 — four spaces below Singapore at 25. London, capital of the United Kingdom, was placed 40th, and New York City at 44. Closer to home, Atlanta was ranked 65th, and Miami — sometimes referred to as ‘Kingston 21’ was placed at 68.

Over in Africa, Accra, capital of Ghana, placed at 166, with Lagos, the largest Nigerian city, placed at 212. The highest-placed African city was Durban in South Africa, ranked at 87, followed by Cape Town, also in South Africa, at 94.

Dead Man Tell No Tale – Peter Abrahams – What A Wicked Act!!!!!

Do you believe this crap that this 61 years old man is literally coughing up and spitting out.  Vipers have a way of doing the very same thing.  61 years old tuff turbit wortliss man, who is married to Mr Abrahams housekeeper is now professing a gay affair with the journalist.  ‘Sugar Daddy’ term is not only reserved for the older man and younger girl.  Included are the male on male relationships.  If you believe this spin, even at 61 years old, you can be classified as young once the relationship you are in puts you at least 10 years your partner’s junior.  Well, that is according to my philosophy.  In this case mass man is almost 30 years Mr Abrahams junior.

What I am most annoyed at is this degenerate claims he had an argument with Mr Abrahams over the withdrawal of J$1 million from his debit card.  This is the Roc, which financial institution allows you to withdraw J$1 million from the ATM?  Only the ATM will you receive cash by tendering your debit card.  Him tek di police dem fi idiaat or what?  Why have we given this mongrel media space?  Is this the story he plans to sing all the way to the Court house?  To top it off, he claims his wife knows nothing of this ‘special relationship’ as he engaged in it only for the money.  So wifey whether they are together or not, has now heard your version of what took place and had been taking place whilst she dust, swept and washed away via the media.  Who do you think is going to believe this cock n bull story?  Do you have any photos?  After all you are a hustler and prostitute by your own admission.  So tell me how come you never tek nuh picture suh u coulda add blackmail to di list.

I do not believe this version of events and may Peter Abrahams soul rest in peace.  They say dead man tell no tale.  On the Roc, a whole heap a people believe ina duppy.  From what I heard about the Brazilian President earlier this week who has left his palatial mansion as it was believed dat fi dem version of duppy did ina di place a freak him an im wife out.  Watch uself mass man as u might open up some can a duppy as it appears u love fi play wid dem.  Is only a certain kine a person do an sey di tings dem u a talk after being accused of the murder of this 97 years old renowned journalist who made Jamaica his home.

Murder accused alleges gay affair with Peter Abrahams — sources

The man accused of killing Peter Abrahams is said to have told police he was involved in a “special relationship” with the distinguished journalist.

Sources informed Loop News that Norman Tomlinson — the 61-year-old husband of Abrahams’ helper — said the relationship involved both men touching and kissing each other.

Tomlinson, Loop News was informed, said he got involved with the 97-year-old wheelchair-bound Abrahams for the money.

Tomlinson said his wife didn’t know about the relationship with Abrahams — and that he didn’t go to Abrahams’ Red Hills, St Andrew, home during the hours his wife worked there.

Abrahams was found dead at home January 18. Tomlinson — a resident of Cyprus district, in Red Hills — was subsequently arrested and charged.

Large sums of cash had been withdrawn from Abrahams’ bank account leading up to Abrahams’ death.

In relation to the cash, Loop News has been informed that Tomlinson told police that Abrahams gave him his debit card and that he took $1 million from the account to purchase a power saw and other items.

Loop News was further informed that Tomlinson said he and Abrahams, who was also a novelist, got into an argument over the amount taken from the account.

He said he was holding Abrahams’ wheelchair when he fell out of it. He said he tried helping up Abrahams, who fell again because he was too heavy for him to manage.

According to the source, Tomlinson said nothing about killing Abrahams.

Tomlinson appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court March 15 and his case was set for a later date.

Opposition Leader, Portia Simpson-Miller – Last Call It Is

A Jamaican first and foremost, I will always pay keen attention to the affairs of my own country above others.  As transfixed as many in the world have become with the USA and their events, on the Roc we have much that is taking place and some attention should be directed here.  After all you live on the Roc don’t you or if not, have business interests?  Maybe it is about time, many of our own people put the interests of the Jamaican people first as America undertakes that chapter themselves.  On that note I take the time on my space to recognise Jamaica’s first ever female Prime Minister.  Wow!!!!!!!

When the question was posed on twitter of what you most admired about the Hon Portia Simpson-Miller, I replied with two words only.  ‘Strength and perseverance’.  Irrespective of the odds women face, I stand firm in emulating those two admirable traits, strength and perseverance.  Always stand tall no matter what the haters say.

Academia does not give you strength or perseverance.  It is your tenacity, belief in self that you CAN with your God given talent.  Through my eyes when I look at the rise of the Opposition Leader Portia Simpson-Miller, I fully realise the role your haters play on Planet Earth. They can only elevate you on your journey once you have the mental capacity to comprehend.  Quitting is never an option and you shall reap what you sow.

Walk good Madame.

Bittersweet – Portia bids farewell to a lifelong love affair and incredible journey of service

(Jamaica Gleaner) Friday | March 17, 2017 | 3:00 AM

Opposition Leader and outgoing People’s National Party President Portia Simpson Miller throws kisses to her supporters outside Gordon House before making her final Budget Debate presentation to Parliament yesterday.

Opposition Leader Portia Simpson Miller and husband Errald Miller make their way into Gordon House before making her final Budget Debate presentation to Parliament yesterday.
In what Opposition Leader Portia Simpson Miller described as a “bittersweet” contribution in her final Budget Debate presentation in Gordon House yesterday, the longest current serving political representative in Parliament said that despite moments of tears and regret, her relationship with the Jamaican people has been “a lifelong love affair”.

“I have seen the good, the bad, the happy, the sad, but above all, I have had an incredible journey of service to my beloved people and country,” she shared with colleague parliamentarians.

Simpson Miller, arguably one of the most popular political figures in Jamaica’s modern political history, yesterday received resounding acknowledgement from members on both sides of the parliamentary divide as they stood in unison, banging the tables after the veteran lawmaker completed a wide-ranging presentation.

‘OVER TO YOU’

Quoting from founding member of the People’s National Party Norman Manley, the outgoing president said that the “mission of the next generation is to achieve economic and social independence”, a task Simpson Miller said she had set out to accomplish during her tenure.

“It is now your inning,” said Simpson Miller to Peter Phillips as she leaned over to him and whispered: “It is going to be over to you.”

While parliamentarians inside the chamber coalesced in showing respect to Simpson Miller’s more than 40 years in active politics, the so-called grass-roots people, whose support made her a ‘nine-star general’, echoed their leader’s name as they stood behind a barrier about 50 metres below Gordon House on Duke Street, Kingston.

Simpson Miller was elected nine times to the House of Representatives. If her win in the local government elections in 1974 were to be counted, Simpson Miller would have the enviable record of being designated a ‘ten-star general’.

“I am proud of my record of representation of the people of St Andrew South West since December 1976,” Simpson Miller declared, adding that even when her party did not contest the 1983 general election on principle, she never left her people.

The veteran politician conceded that she did not achieve everything she wanted for her constituency but noted that St Andrew South West had come a “very long way from where I found it in 1976”.

Pastor Gets 20 Years – Glass Ceiling Broken??? – Ole Deviant!!!!

Pastors fall, reality, after all they are just like you and me, mere humans………….Erkesssss, draw brakes…………. hell no.  This is where it gets prickly as we jolly well know that many Pastors tend to move around as if they are God themselves.  Many pride themselves on being scholars of the Bible who can stir and evoke emotions from the sinners that stumble into Church as a ritual to seek forgiveness and be spirited by the one that calls them self ‘Pastor’.  It is pastor dis and pastor dat.  Pastor sey dis and pastor sey dat.  Rarely do they refer to the Bible as their ‘go to’.  Instead it is the Pastor.  So much so that the very act of sexual immorality is not only shrugged off under the carpets in many Churches.  The act of every imaginable fleshly sin is placed under the carpet for fear of rocking the boat and losing membership and I daresay the ‘dollar’.

Caught up in their own lifestyle of deceit of the ‘flock’ and the male bond that they have developed amongst their peers.  One would believe that there is one rule for Pastors and another for congregants.  Pastors inappropriate behaviour whether it be to entertain gossip, fractions causing division within the body, tearing down other colleagues from other denominations or non-denominations.  It appears Church leadership is suffering from their own political crisis where the Bible is often times ignored.  If it were not so, why have we reached this juncture?  How many Pastors have you heard, know of who pursue relationships with members of their own church or within the Body?  How often have you heard about Pastors who drop lick pon dem wife?  Let us be very clear, the wives are fully aware of the wretch that they are married to.  Only when sexual immorality and abuse is inflicted that the scriptures are brought to the fore, re forgiveness, and till death do us part.  So keeping up appearances is part of the course for Church people too.

I am a firm believer that what you fail to nip in the bud, will one day nip you causing great shame and degradation that no amount of justification can satisfy the audience soul.  We are faced with ‘rape’ that is what I call it.  With the Catholic Church having been rocked by sexual scandals amongst their most vulnerable, the behaviour still continues.  Why?  The invincibility that Pastors believe they possess.  The knowledge that their very own brotherhood will keep it under wraps, with only a warning followed by a grin.  After all what is a little sex?  As long as I beg God forgiveness, I can wheel an come again.  I am different, the example does not apply to me only to those who look  up to me for spiritual guidance, challenges they face whether relational or otherwise.   Often times it is said, ‘this too shall pass’.  Will this really pass?  Only if the Church who wants to maintain power on planet earth begin to hold those who lead at a higher standard than those who enter.  Until the Body of Christ whether a denomination or non-denomination speak out about the double standards that are allowed to exist.  The role of the Church will disintegrate to sheer mockery by those who continue by their action, to preach a message that they choose not to live by.

The sick, the vulnerable are told to enter into God’s house, yet when the house of God becomes a stomping ground for wickedness, nastiness, envy and corrupt behaviour by those in charge, the silence is deafening ,UNTIL.  Please tell me, on what grounds do the Church believe they stand on to be part of the social and moral decay rocking this land if  those standards are double, based on continued action by those who claim they are ‘called’ to lead?

Rev Paul Hanniford pays penalty for having sex with 13-year-old girl

Pastor told 13-year-old girl after sex it was their ‘secret’

(Jamaica Observer) Saturday, March 11, 2017     83 Comments

REV Paul Hanniford was yesterday sentenced to 20 years in prison for having sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old girl two years ago.

The sentence was handed down by Justice Lorna Shelly Williams when Hanniford appeared in the Home Circuit Court in downtown Kingston.

The Pentecostal City Mission Church pastor was on January 24 convicted by a seven-member jury for having sexual intercourse with the girl, who was three years below the age of consent.

The court was told that the minor was a member of the the pastor’s Pentecostal City Mission Church and was baptised by him.

According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP), the complainant, who is now 15 years old, testified in court that on March 12, 2015, she and her five-year-old brother went to the church for choir practice and after the rehearsal they asked Pastor Hanniford for a drive-out in his van. The pastor, the ODPP said, took the children to his house in Kingston and all three went inside the building.

“The pastor gave the five-year-old some cornflakes to eat. The complainant requested the use of the bathroom and while there in the bathroom the pastor entered. The complainant was pushed by the pastor outside the bathroom onto a bed that was inside a nearby bedroom and sexually assaulted her,” the ODPP said in a release following the pastor’s conviction in January.

Prosecutors led evidence that the complainant began crying for help.

The court was told that her cries of “help, help” were overheard by her brother, who had climbed onto a chair and peeped through a hole in the door and observed Pastor Hanniford sexually assaulting his sister which made him feel “sad”.

According to the evidence presented to the court, after the complainant managed to leave the room, and rejoin her brother, the pastor gave them some cornflakes to eat and later warned the complainant not to tell anyone as it was their “secret”.

Later Pastor Hanniford, the court heard, took the complainant and her brother back to the church where the mother of the children met them. The complainant’s brother made a report to his mother in the presence of the pastor about what he had seen.

The following day a meeting was convened at the church with the bishop, the pastor, the complainant, her brother and the children’s parents. On April 14, 2015, a report was made to the police and the pastor was arrested. He was subsequently charged and when he was cautioned he made no statement.

In his defence at the in-camera trial, the pastor denied having sexual intercourse with the complainant and said that he had given the children a drive-out but not on the day in question.
